Before making the choice on whether to purchase a round/oval tent or square/rectangle tent there are several things to consider.     You want to choose thetent style that is the best for your need.     If you haven’t purchased a tent before, it can be a tough decision.

The round & oval tents and square & rectangle tents each have their own unique style and advantages.    In this article I will show the advantages of both tents.

Advantages of round & oval tents

Over the years, round & oval tents have primarily been used by circus’ and by ministries for tent revivals and other special events.   In the last few decades they have become more popular for use by commercial party tent customers as well.   Following are several reasons why a round or oval tent might serve you best:

#1  If you are in an extreme weather area, the number one reason to consider a round end tent is that they are more wind resistant.    The round ended tents will handle approximately 30 MPH more wind than a square end tent.   They accomplish this for 2 primary reasons:

a.   A round end tent will disperse the wind much easier than a square end simply because of its shape.   It will do this whether it is a small or large tent.   A square end will tend to catch more wind on its flat sides.

b.   When the wind and weather hit a round end tent, every tie down will share the load equally.    On a square end the corners are left to do most of the work.   Especially on a big tent.

#2  Because each tie down shares the load equally, this style of tent will allow you to stretch it out more easily and get rid of wrinkles in the top.   This could definitely speed up your set up time.

#3   The shape of these tents are attractive and unique.   Anything you can do to draw people to your commercial tent event is critical so the round & oval shape can be a real advantage.

Advantages of square & rectangle tents

Square & rectangle tents are very popular for any event whether it is used as a commercial party tent or church revival tent.   Following are several reasons why a square or rectangle tent might serve you best:

#1  A square end tent might simply fit the lay of land you have better than a round end tent.   Many of our customers have limited space which makes it an easy choice to go with a square or rectangle tent.

#2  If you are using square or rectangle shaped tables you will be able to make better use of the available space under this style tent than you would with a round end tent.

#3  A square or rectangle tent has consistently been the most popular choice by commercial event tent companies around the world.    In recent years, our customers are experimenting more with different shapes, but the square end seems to be the favorite choice for any event whether it is used as a wedding tent, a small party tent for a family gathering or simply a large party tent when your home or business doesn’t provide enough room.

Although I have stated that there is a wind resistant advantage of a round or oval tent, it is important to know the following:  We have manufactured many small and large square end tents over the years and have shipped them all over the world.     Many locations have extreme weather and many of these tents are left up semi-permanently or permanently.     To ensure this style tent is wind resistant enough, you simply need to add additional staking positions to all the key strength points.   Particularly the corners, middle of the ends of tent and on lace lines if tent has them.    In very extreme situations our customers will secure the poles to the ground as well.

Our tent manufacturing production line is very efficient due to the fact that the building was designed especially for our use. We laid out the floor plan and then planned the shape, size and height of the building. For example, we have two electric traveling hoists that run the length of the 25′ high ceiling, making the extra large tents almost as easy to handle as the smaller ones.

Really Great Manufacturing Equipment:

We have invested confidently in the very best tent manufacturing equipment. Most of our machines and fixtures are built or rebuilt especially for us – or by us – to do a better job, or a more expeditious job. As a result, we routinely fabricate a 52′ round tent in 16 man hours. Then we turn around and spend some 14 man hours vulcanizing, or “welding”, vinyl weather stripping over every seam. Every stitch of thread in the tent top is permanently protected.

A Tremendous Staff:

Our tent manufacturing crew is really stable and dedicated. As a result, they have become world class in what they do. Each has become his/her own best critic. Nevertheless, the work is under constant inspection by others all the way through the production line.

Over the last 38 years we are continually tested and proved our pole tents on our 4-acre proving grounds where we have permanent stake lines.

A FEW EXTRA THINGS YOU WILL LIKE ABOUT OUR SERVICE

All tent portions, including side-wall, are sent in tough, over-sized vinyl bags with permanent handles on the four corners. Even a 77′ tent half can be carried away by four average men. We now include one or more trucker’s ratchets for 30′ and wider tents. This makes it convenient for one man to tighten the tie-down ropes on any tent. You’ll wonder how you ever got along without them.

We purchased our 18oz. 52 x 76 oval pole tent over 8 years ago for camp meetings, revivals, funerals, weddings, and larger church services/ functions. Our tent was used on average 15 times a year for more than a week at a time. I have to admit this tent is holding up very well, we set up in dry, hot dusty conditions. We've set it up among shrubs, rocks, and sand that dyes the tent material red. Those conditions are adverse and not recommended for the tent but our tent still looks great and is holding up well, we expect it to last another 8 years.   Alex Gilmoretar

In the early 90’s, a new 90″ wide 14 oz tent vinyl was developed especially for Miami Missionary Tent that we use in our round tents, oval tents, party tents, and missionary tents exclusively. It is not only of the highest quality tent vinyl but is very affordable with the strength and life that match a heavier and more costly tent vinyl.

This custom 14 oz tent vinyl film, in combination with our world class technicians, produce a tent that far exceeds our competition in quality and strength. Its strength to weight ratio is greater because pound for pound, the polyester inside the vinyl is 100% stronger than cotton and it will retain its strength for many years. It is durable because it is exceptionally resistant to abrasion, holing, chemicals and grease. Permanently fire resistant and meets all the requirements of the NFPA 701 Large Scale Flame Test and the California State Fire Marshall Small Scale Test. Flame resistance and char length meets and exceeds California state Fire Marshall requirements. Certificates of flame resistance are also sent with every tent shipment.

Now in 2017 we have this same product in a 16 oz blackout white.   This only cost's a little more than the 14 oz and will provide cooler temperatures during the day.

It will perform in wind and weather as though it was a much heavier vinyl.  As all of our vinyl’s, it is exceptionally resistant to abrasion and holing and it is permanently fire resistant.

When Miami Missionary Tent first began to build tents for church planting, we knew they needed to be left up year round.  To accomplish this we had to design a superior but affordable tent.  We chose to manufacture pole tents and use a unique tent vinyl laminate made to our specifications. This allows them to stand 2 to 3 times longer than industry standard.   The fabric used in the 18 oz. laminate is much thicker than normal at 1300 x 1800 denier polyester.   Most companies only use 1000 x 1000 denier. Our vinyl is 100% stronger!   It also contains extra titanium dioxide which allows our vinyl to outperform all others in sun resistance, abrasion resistance and length of life. We manufacture these tents with seat belts on every seam, both vertically and horizontally, with triple stitching and all steel to steel connections. This makes for a wonderful party tent for sale. We recognized the need for superior strength party tents as well as the tents we were manufacturing for ministries.

Pole tent vs Frame tent

Making the decision on whether to purchase a pole tent or frame tent for your business or ministry is very important. While you are making this decision, it is very critical to find one that perfectly matches what you need. For many people the idea of making this choice can be quite intimidating. If you’ve never purchased a tent before it can be hard to tell exactly what you need.

The pole tent and frame tent each have their own unique style and advantages, but you shouldn’t be concerned if you feel a bit lost. In this article I will show the advantages of both tents. Although the pole tent and frame tent are both excellent choices, I will show you that the pole tent is by far the most popular choice because of ease of set-up, transportation, price and strength against the weather.

Advantages of a pole tent

1. Cost: Pole tents are normally much less expensive than frame tents. That makes them the most popular choice in tents for all types of uses like parties, rentals, revivals, fireworks as well as disaster relief. They are supported by wall poles on edge and center poles in the middle. They rely on tension from stakes and tie downs to keep them tight. They can cover much more area for less money than any other type of tent.

2. Weather resistance: Pole tents will withstand much higher wind loads than a frame tent.

3. Ease & speed of set up: A pole tent is much easier to erect than a frame tent. They are very popular among business owners because the parts are normally not as heavy. It typically takes 1/3 of the time and 1/3 of the crew to set up a pole tent as compared to a frame tent. That is a huge difference in your pocket book each year.

4. Replacement parts: The hardware for a pole tent is easily replaced if they are lost or damaged. You can quickly borrow poles or stakes from another tent or find replacement parts at a nearby store.

5. Ease of transport: Pole tents are much easier to transport compared to a frame tent. You can transport small to medium size pole tents in a pickup or small trailer.

Advantages of a frame tent

1. The primary advantage of a frame tent compared to a pole tent is that it doesn’t have center poles in the middle. To some event planners this is critical to what they have planned for their event.

2. They are also ideal for events that are indoors where you are not allowed to drive stakes.

3. Frame tents can also be erected next to a building or another frame tent.

What is your best choice, a pole tent or a frame tent?

Overall, a pole tent is the best choice over a frame tent because as mentioned above, pole tents are less expensive. They are much more weather resistant. If the frame of your frame tent bends in a storm you can lose your tent top since it is attached to the frame. A pole tent would not suffer the same kind of damage. And since a frame tent has such specialized hardware, if you break or lose a part of it you will probably not have use of the tent until you can get a replacement part. The parts of a frame tent are more difficult to transport compared to a pole tent. Some people might think they don’t have to drive stakes in the ground for a frame tent but unless you are using your frame tent indoors, it must be held in place by stakes, water barrels or concrete medians.

The price and strength of a pole tent compared to a frame tent is simply unmatched. Although there will be occasions when you must have a frame tent, most of the time the pole tent will be the best choice for you and your business.
